John Hammill

CHAIRMAN & FOUNDER

After completing his MBA and working for Colgate-Palmolive in his early career, Mr. Hammill started in real estate in 1997. Mr. Hammill is the fifth generation in his family to be in the real estate investment business. While working at the Staubach Company until 2009 John participated in over $5 billion of sale leaseback transactions with companies like CVS, Walgreens, and 7-Eleven. He also participated in the formation and development of both a multifamily and retail net lease real estate investment trusts. While at the Staubach Company, Mr. Hammill also developed a net lease brokerage.

After the sale of the Staubach company to Jones Lang LaSalle in 2009, Mr. Hammill started to develop the Capview business model. Starting in 2010, Capview ran multiple investment funds in a single tenant net lease retail properties. John decided to sell Capview’s last retail net lease fund to institutional investors in 2018, which was subsequently taken Public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2020, and it is now listed as NTST.

Mr. Hammill truly believes that net lease properties offer significant safety, stability, and accessibility to investors and realized that there was no such commercial structure for residential rental properties. Starting in 2020, Mr. Hammill started the residential net lease business, Appreciation Homes and the other satellite businesses around this new asset class.

Today John’s role as chairman of the company is to coach and assist individual business unit managers in successfully managing and developing their businesses along with traditional corporate governance.
